Andrea graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology.  She has a breadth of experience including clinical, school, and home health settings and has provided therapy to a wide range of ages from preschool to geriatric. Passionate about treating stuttering disorders, she incorporates an additional counseling component for this type of therapy. She also has a special interest in working with assistive technology to improve communication and is proficient with American Sign Language. Andrea is experienced in evaluating and treating articulation disorders, apraxia, voice disorders, language delays, swallowing disorders, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and a variety of genetic syndromes.


Alicia Richardson, M.S., CCC-SLP

Alicia graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a Master of Science in clinical speech pathology. Alicia has experience working as a speech-language pathologist in school, clinic, and home-based settings. She has evaluated and provided therapy to clients with a variety of speech and language needs. Alicia is particularly interested in treating articulation, phonological, and expressive/receptive language disorders. She is passionate about working with children and collaborating with families to increase their communication skills.

Andrea is originally from Nebraska where she graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s of science in communication disorders.  She has practiced as a speech-language pathologist for 15+ years with many different age groups ranging from 3-93 and in a variety of settings including:  public schools, home care, trauma hospitals, acute rehabilitation, nursing homes, pediatric and adult outpatient, and a private clinic.  Andrea has experience evaluating and treating the following disorders: articulation and language, cognitive, swallowing, apraxia, aphasia, fluency and voice.  Her client population has included children and adults with Aphasia, Apraxia, Down Syndrome, Autism, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injury, Myesthenia Gravis, Brain Tumors, and Developmental Delays.  She has a passion for educating children and parents about communication and the role it plays in helping an individual develop lifelong social and academic skills.


 

 

 

 

Annette R. Ellis, M.S., CCC-SLP

Annette graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Psychology and worked for several years as a special education teacher primarily with children with autism. She went on to receive her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA. Annette has since worked with a variety of populations in school, home-based early intervention, and hospital settings. Her passion is supporting kids and their caregivers in building a foundation for lifelong success. Annette is a native Spanish speaker and also provides bilingual assessment and therapy at the center.

Sarah graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Communication Science and Disorders and received her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from the George Washington University.  Sarah has over 8 years experience in child speech and language development and has extensive experience in working with children with a wide variety of speech, language and developmental disabilities.  Sarah is a Hanen Certified Workshop Leader for It Takes Two to Talk which is a 12 week parent program for enhancing communication development in children with language delays.  She has used her speech-language pathology talents in Washington DC, New Orleans LA, and Stanford and Redwood CA.  Her focus, “I strive to encourage and motivate children to discover the power of language, while also providing educational and emotional support to their families.”  She returns to the Children’s Speech and Reading Center were she was a Speech-Language Pathologist for over 3 years after a one year stay in Vienna, Austria.  WOW!   Willkommen Zuruck!


 

Debra Dale, M.A.

Debra is a reading and literacy specialist. She graduated from Regis University, Denver with a B.A. in Behavioral Science (2000) and an M.A. in Education from Grand Canyon University, Arizona in 2003. She has taught at the elementary school level in the Poudre School District and as an Adjunct Professor at Colorado State University, developing and presenting the course “Literacy and the Learner”. Deb has a Colorado Professional Elementary Licensure, with “Highly Qualified Language Arts” designation. She has mentored education students from UNC at Eyestone Elementary, supervising and coaching new teachers in appropriate behavior management, instructional strategies, and assessments for determining student growth.


 

Valerie Backo, M.A.

Valerie is originally from a small town in upstate New York.  She has degrees in Elementary and Special Education, as well as, a Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist.  She taught in Pennsylvania for seven years as a Special Education Teacher and as a Special Education Teacher in the Thompson School District for three years.  She then transitioned into a reading and math intervention specialist position for two years.  Valerie integrates a multi-sensory approach in teaching all subject areas.  She loves to smile, dance, and make connections with families, as well as, our kids.  She is passionate about having her students feel empowered to become self-advocates for their own learning.   Valerie is Orton Gillingham certified which is the gold standard for treating dyslexia.  She fosters positivity, growth, and deep thinking in all of her students.


 

 

 

 

 

Dave Boon, M.S.

Dave brings over 20 years of non-profit leadership and management experience to the CSRC.  Dave has been the Executive Director of several youth serving organizations and has been on the Board of Directors of many others. His leadership consistently brings non-profits to a higher level of financial stability and organizational effectiveness.  He has a B.A from Florida Atlantic University and a M.S from Colorado State University.   He is the author of a teen self-help book, My Wish: Don’t Get Swept Away as a Teen and because of a unique life changing event, appeared on Oprah and The Today Show. Dave has been described as the “visionary energizer bunny” and is passionate about helping our youth reach their full potential in life.

Laura is our Office Manager. She manages client scheduling, assists with fundraising efforts, program development, client intake, public relations, grant preparation, documentation, record keeping, and technology support.

Diana is the Center’s bookkeeper. She brings an accounting background to the Center. She provides the Director with the necessary information to ensure viability of the Center, providing budget analysis, documentation, payroll, and billing services. She assists the Director in grant preparation, financial record keeping, and program cost analysis.
